New imaging may sharpen heart ablation for stubborn AFib

NCT ID NCT02184013

First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether advanced ECG mapping, MRI, and PET scans can better identify the heart tissue causing persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib). Researchers will use these images to guide a personalized catheter ablation procedure in 52 adults with persistent AFib. The goal is to see if this tailored approach leads to higher success rates in restoring normal heart rhythm.
