New combo aims to outsmart recurrent brain tumors

NCT ID NCT05345002

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 40 times

Summary

This Phase 2 trial tests a combination of two drugs—all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and retifanlimab—in people whose IDH-mutant glioma (a type of brain tumor) has returned after prior treatment. The goal is to see if the combination can boost the immune system to fight the tumor. About 55 participants will receive both drugs for up to two years, and researchers will measure how many tumors shrink or stop growing.

Active substance

All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and retifanlimab (a PD-1 inhibitor)

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for people with recurrent IDH-mutant glioma, potentially slowing tumor growth or shrinking tumors.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 55 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drugs may cause side effects or fail to control the cancer long-term.
