Simple blood test may spare heart patients unpleasant procedure

NCT ID NCT03455673

First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looked at over 3,000 people with atrial fibrillation who needed a heart procedure. It tested whether a simple score (ATE) using medical history and a blood test could safely rule out dangerous blood clots in the heart, avoiding the need for an uncomfortable ultrasound. The goal was to confirm that a zero ATE score means no clot is present.
