Simple blood test and health history may spare patients uncomfortable heart exam

NCT ID NCT03455673

First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested whether a simple scoring system (ATE score) can safely rule out dangerous blood clots in the heart before a procedure to treat atrial fibrillation. Over 3,000 adults scheduled for catheter ablation were checked using both the ATE score and a standard ultrasound. The goal was to see if a zero ATE score could reliably avoid the need for the uncomfortable ultrasound.
