Simple blood test may spare heart patients unpleasant procedure
NCT ID NCT03455673
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a simple scoring system (ATE score) can safely rule out dangerous blood clots in the heart before a procedure for atrial fibrillation. Over 3,000 adults participated. The goal was to see if the score could replace a more uncomfortable ultrasound test, potentially making preparation for treatment easier and less invasive.

Who is studied
In each centre, patient eligible for atrial fibrillation or left flutter ablation will be screened. In agreement with the physician performing the procedure, the study will be explained and proposed to the eligible patients by an investigator at the admission or at the pre-ablation consultation. It is strongly recommended to include patients consecutively in order to limit selection bias.
