Patients may speed recovery by stimulating bowel at home before surgery

NCT ID NCT07574437

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at whether people can safely do bowel stimulation at home for 3 weeks before surgery to close an ileostomy. The goal is to see if this simple daily routine can help the bowel wake up faster after surgery, reducing hospital stays and complications. About 34 adults who had part of their colon removed will participate, and their results will be compared to past patients who did not do this at-home program.
