Breath and blood tests could revolutionize asthma diagnosis in kids

NCT ID NCT07011394

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at whether two simple tests—a breath test (FeNO) and a blood test—can help diagnose asthma in children aged 6 to 17. Currently, diagnosing asthma often requires complex hospital tests. The goal is to see if these easier tests work well enough to be used in regular doctor's offices, especially for children whose initial breathing tests are unclear.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make asthma diagnosis easier and faster for children using simple, non-invasive tests in primary care.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study with only 123 participants, so results may not apply to all children. The tests may not be accurate enough to replace current methods.
