First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study compares two antiplatelet drug combinations in 900 people who recently had a minor stroke or TIA caused by large-artery disease. One group gets aspirin plus ticagrelor, the other aspirin plus clopidogrel, both started within 24 hours and continued for 90 days. What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ticagrelor and clopidogrel (antiplatelet drugs)
What this could lead to
If ticagrelor works better, it could become a new standard option to prevent a second stroke after a minor stroke or TIA.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial, so results may not apply everywhere. Both drugs increase bleeding risk, and ticagrelor may cause more side effects like shortness of breath.
