NCT ID NCT06591338

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study compares two antiplatelet drug combinations in 900 people who recently had a minor stroke or TIA caused by large-artery disease. One group gets aspirin plus ticagrelor, the other aspirin plus clopidogrel, both started within 24 hours and continued for 90 days. The goal is to see which combo better prevents new strokes and major bleeding events.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ticagrelor and clopidogrel (antiplatelet drugs)

What this could lead to

If ticagrelor works better, it could become a new standard option to prevent a second stroke after a minor stroke or TIA.

What could go wrong

This is a single-center trial, so results may not apply everywhere. Both drugs increase bleeding risk, and ticagrelor may cause more side effects like shortness of breath.
