Sniff away the drill: lemongrass oil may ease dental fear

NCT ID NCT07506135

First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tested whether smelling lemongrass essential oil during a tooth extraction could lower pain, anxiety, and stress. Twenty-one people aged 12 to 25 who needed two upper premolars removed took part. Each person received aromatherapy for one tooth and a placebo for the other, so they served as their own comparison. The goal was to see if a simple scent could make dental visits more comfortable.
