Antibiotics overkill? new study tests if placebo works just as well for bone grafting.

NCT ID NCT07296302

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking antibiotics after a jawbone graft is really necessary. About 150 healthy adults getting a tooth pulled and a bone graft will receive either amoxicillin or a placebo for 7 days. The goal is to see if the placebo group has the same infection rate, which could help reduce unnecessary antibiotic use.
