New treatment hope for kids with debilitating arthritis

NCT ID NCT00339157

Summary

This study tested whether anakinra could help children and young adults with severe systemic juvenile arthritis who weren't responding well to steroid treatments. For the first month, half received anakinra and half received a placebo, then all received anakinra for 11 more months while doctors tried to reduce their steroid doses. The main goal was to see if anakinra could significantly improve arthritis symptoms within one month and allow patients to use fewer steroids over a year.
