New hope for kids with severe arthritis: drug trial shows promise

NCT ID NCT00339157

Summary

This study tested whether the drug anakinra could help children and young adults with a severe form of juvenile arthritis that wasn't controlled by steroid medications. For the first month, half the 24 participants received anakinra and half received a placebo, followed by 11 months where everyone received the drug. The main goal was to see if anakinra could significantly reduce arthritis activity and allow doctors to lower steroid doses.
