Study seeks to perfect IV nutrition for newborns
NCT ID NCT06372314
First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study looks at how much of four essential amino acids (isoleucine, leucine, valine, and tryptophan) stable newborn babies need when they get all their nutrition through an IV (total parenteral nutrition, or TPN). Researchers will enroll about 80 babies across two hospitals in Brazil. By collecting breath and urine samples, they aim to find the exact requirements, which may be much lower than current standard formulas provide.
