Precision nutrition for tiniest patients: study seeks to perfect IV formulas for preemies

NCT ID NCT06372314

First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at how much of four essential amino acids (isoleucine, leucine, valine, and tryptophan) premature babies need when they get all their nutrition through an IV (called TPN). Researchers will test 80 stable newborns in Brazil using breath and urine samples to find the exact requirements. The goal is to improve current TPN formulas, which may contain too much of these amino acids.
