Ultrasound breakthrough: could opening the Brain's barrier help ALS?
NCT ID NCT03321487
First seen Mar 25, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This early study tested whether a focused ultrasound technique could safely open the blood-brain barrier in the motor cortex of people with ALS. Four participants underwent the procedure to see if it was feasible and well-tolerated. The main goal was to check for side effects, not to treat the disease. This research helps lay the groundwork for future therapies that might deliver drugs directly to the brain.
