First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether alpha lipoic acid, an antioxidant supplement, could prevent heart damage caused by the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin in 80 women with breast cancer. Participants received either the supplement or a placebo alongside their first round of chemo. The researchers measured changes in heart function and blood markers of heart stress to see if the supplement offered protection.
