Natural supplement may shield hearts from chemo damage

NCT ID NCT06703593

Summary

This study tested whether alpha lipoic acid, a natural antioxidant supplement, could protect the heart from damage caused by the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin in breast cancer patients. Researchers enrolled 80 Egyptian women with breast cancer who were starting doxorubicin treatment to see if taking alpha lipoic acid could help maintain heart function and reduce heart-related side effects. The study measured heart function through echocardiograms and blood tests to determine if the supplement provided meaningful protection.
