Summary

This study tests whether allopurinol, a common gout medication, can improve heart function in African American veterans with resistant hypertension. Over 8 weeks, 40 participants will take allopurinol to see if it helps their hearts pump better, increases exercise ability, and improves quality of life. The goal is to find a new way to manage heart disease risk in this high-risk group.
