Summary
This study tests whether allopurinol, a common gout medication, can improve heart function, exercise ability, and quality of life in African American Veterans with resistant hypertension. About 40 participants will take allopurinol for 8 weeks to see if it helps their hearts pump more efficiently. The goal is to find a new way to reduce heart failure risk in this high-risk group.
