Scientists trigger inflammation to unlock alcohol craving secrets

NCT ID NCT07452146

Summary

This study aims to understand how inflammation in the body affects mood and alcohol cravings in people with alcohol use disorder (AUD). Researchers will give a single, low-dose IV infusion (either a substance that causes brief inflammation or a placebo saline solution) to 64 participants—half with AUD and half without. They will then measure participants' mood, cravings, and inflammatory markers over several hours and track alcohol use for a week to see if the inflammation has any lasting effects.
