AI-Powered Role-Play could transform how dentists learn to disclose risks
NCT ID NCT07731867
First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a generative AI program can improve how dental students discuss treatment risks and obtain informed consent. Ninety-six fifth-year dental students will either use an AI-based immersive training platform or traditional case-based learning for one month. The study measures communication quality, confidence, and anxiety levels to see if AI training offers an advantage over conventional methods.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- generative AI-based immersive training program using the Gemini platform
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a scalable, low-cost way to train dental students in high-stakes communication skills.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with 96 students at a single institution, so results may not generalize. The AI simulations may not fully replicate real patient interactions.
