Can an AI chatbot coach people away from type 2 diabetes?
NCT ID NCT07824154
First seen Sep 17, 2026 · Last updated Sep 18, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers are testing an AI chatbot that gives personalized, culturally tailored advice on nutrition, physical activity, and goal setting to adults at risk for type 2 diabetes. About 30 adults aged 18 to 55 will use the chatbot for 6 weeks. The study will check whether the chatbot is easy to use, helpful, and trustworthy, and whether health behavior data can be collected for larger future studies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- an AI-powered diabetes prevention chatbot that gives personalized nutrition and fitness coaching
- What this could lead to
- If the chatbot proves easy to use and helpful, it could offer a low-cost way to deliver personalized diabetes prevention coaching to people at risk. It could also inform larger studies testing whether such tools change health behaviors.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, short feasibility study with about 30 participants over 6 weeks. It measures engagement and data collection, not whether the chatbot prevents diabetes. The approach may not work for everyone or translate into lasting behavior change.
