Your phone could soon spot deadly skin cancer

NCT ID NCT05843994

Summary

This study aims to create a smartphone app that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help people with a rare, severe skin condition called recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) detect a dangerous skin cancer early. Researchers are collecting photos of skin from people with RDEB to train the AI model to recognize squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), which is a leading cause of death in adults with this condition. The goal is to build a tool that patients can use at home to get a quick assessment, especially if they have limited access to specialists or fear painful exams.
