Scientists probe why older patients need less anesthesia

NCT ID NCT07372417

First seen Jan 29, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at why older adults may need less anesthesia during major abdominal surgery. Researchers will compare younger and older patients to see if inflammation linked to aging plays a role. Participants will have their anesthesia doses tracked, brain activity monitored, and blood and tissue samples taken. The goal is to better understand how the body's immune system affects anesthesia, not to test a new treatment.
