New study tests safer stroke prevention for frail elderly with AFib

NCT ID NCT07441382

First seen Mar 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study is for frail patients aged 75 and older with atrial fibrillation (AFib) who are at high risk for both stroke and bleeding. It compares two treatment strategies: catheter ablation (a procedure to fix the heart's rhythm) combined with a device that closes the left atrial appendage (a small pouch in the heart where clots can form) versus ablation combined with standard blood thinners. The goal is to see which approach better prevents strokes, major bleeding, and other serious events over one year.
