Walking away from high uric acid: exercise trial for dialysis patients
NCT ID NCT07076888
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Sep 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether a 6-week aerobic exercise program (done on non-dialysis days) can lower serum uric acid levels, improve walking ability, and boost quality of life in 32 adults aged 40-60 who are on hemodialysis. Half will exercise 3 times a week; the other half will receive only standard care. The goal is to find a safe, accessible way to reduce heart and joint risks common in dialysis patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Aerobic exercise program (walking, cycling, etc.) 3 times per week on non-dialysis days for 6 weeks
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to lower uric acid and improve daily function and quality of life for people on hemodialysis.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 32 participants. The exercise program is short (6 weeks), so any benefits may be temporary or not apply to all dialysis patients.
