Brain tumor patients may avoid radiation thanks to smart drug strategy

NCT ID NCT06974370

First seen May 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study is testing whether people with brain metastases (cancer that spread to the brain) can safely avoid radiation therapy if their cancer medication is working. About 45 adults with solid tumors, mostly non-small cell lung cancer, will start or continue systemic therapy (immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or chemo). After 4-8 weeks, a brain MRI will check if the tumors are shrinking or stable. If so, they skip radiation and continue monitoring. If tumors grow, they can still get standard radiation. The goal is to see how many people can avoid radiation for 6 months and to identify who benefits most.
