First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding the drug abatacept to standard medications (calcineurin inhibitor and methotrexate) could better prevent severe acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) after a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. A total of 186 patients aged 6 and older took part. The goal was to reduce severe aGVHD without increasing infections, but lifelong immune suppression may still be needed.
