Yolk sac tumor
MONDO:0005744A non-seminomatous malignant germ cell tumor composed of primitive germ cells. It is the most common malignant germ cell tumor in the pediatric population. It occurs in the infant testis, ovary, sacrococcygeal region, vagina, uterus, prostate, abdomen, liver, retroperitoneum, thorax, and pineal/third ventricle. The tumor mimics the yolk sac of the embryo and produces alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). Treatment includes: surgical resection, radiation, and chemotherapy. This tumor is very responsive to chemotherapy regimens that include cisplatinum.
Also known as: endodermal sinus neoplasm, endodermal sinus tumor, hepatoid yolk sac tumor, yolk SAC tumor, malignant, yolk Sac neoplasm, yolk Sac tumor, yolk Sac tumor site unspecified, yolk Sac tumour site unspecified

Major trial tests gentler chemo for germ cell tumors
Disease control Recruiting nowThis phase 3 trial studies two approaches for germ cell tumors. For low-risk patients whose tumor has been removed, doctors will monitor them closely instead of giving chemotherapy. For standard-risk patients whose cancer has spread, the trial compares two chemotherapy drugs—carb…

Supercharged immune cells take on childhood cancers
Disease control Recruiting nowThis early-phase trial tests a new immunotherapy called CARE T cells in children and young adults with solid tumors that have returned or not responded to standard treatment. The cells are taken from the patient, genetically modified to recognize a protein (GPC3) found on many so…

New hope for rare cancers: immunotherapy drug targets tumors regardless of origin
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study tests the drug nivolumab in people with advanced rare cancers that have a specific marker (PD-L1). The goal is to see if the drug can shrink or control the tumors when other treatments have stopped working. Up to 28 adults will receive treatment for up to 12 months, an…

Engineered immune cells take aim at childhood cancers
Disease control Recruiting nowThis early-stage trial tests a new type of immunotherapy for children and young adults with solid tumors that have not responded to standard treatments. The therapy uses the patient's own immune cells, which are genetically modified in the lab to recognize and attack cancer cells…

Supercharged immune cells take on hard-to-treat cancers
Disease control Recruiting nowThis early-phase trial tests a new type of immunotherapy for adults with solid tumors that have a protein called GPC3 on their surface. Researchers take a patient's own T cells, add genes to help them recognize and attack GPC3-positive cancer cells, and also include a safety swit…

Massive study tracks 1,100+ kids after cancer treatment to uncover hidden risks
Knowledge-focused Recruiting nowThis study follows over 1,100 children who were treated for germ cell tumors (a type of cancer). Researchers want to learn about long-term side effects like hearing loss and to analyze tumor DNA to better predict which children might have their cancer come back. Participants prov…
