Acute monocytic leukemia
MONDO:0007896Acute monoblastic leukemia (AML-M5), is one of the most common subtypes of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that is either comprised of more than 80% of monoblasts (AML-M5a) or 30-80% monoblasts with (pro)monocytic differentiation (AML-M5b). AML-M5 presents with asthenia, pallor, fever, and dizziness. Specific features of AML-M5 include hyperleukocytosis, propensity for extramedullary infiltrates, coagulation abnormalities including disseminated intravascular coagulation and neurological disorders. Leukemia cutis and gingival infiltration can also be seen. A characteristic translocation observed in AML-M5 is t(9;11).
Also known as: monocytic leukaemia, monocytic leukemia, AML M5, acute monoblastic leukaemia and acute monocytic leukaemia, acute monocytic leukaemia (FAB M5B), acute monocytic leukaemia (FAB M5b), acute monocytic leukemia, acute monocytic leukemia (FAB M5B)

New combo aims to boost transplant success in rare blood cancer
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study tests whether giving a chemotherapy drug (decitabine) plus a targeted therapy (ruxolitinib, fedratinib, or pacritinib) before a stem cell transplant helps people with advanced myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) get to transplant and have better outcomes. About 25 adult…

Promising new combo tackles tough leukemia
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study tests a new mix of drugs for people newly diagnosed with a specific type of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The treatment combines a targeted drug (venetoclax) with two chemotherapy drugs, then switches to another chemo drug plus venetoclax. The goal is to see if this ap…

New hope for leukemia patients: targeted therapy aims to eliminate hidden cancer cells
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study tests whether a targeted drug called gemtuzumab ozogamicin can clear tiny amounts of leukemia that remain after initial treatment in adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The drug works like a smart bomb, attaching to a protein on cancer cells and delivering a chem…

Radioactive antibody targets cancer before stem cell transplant in High-Risk leukemia trial
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study tests a radioactive antibody (211At-BC8-B10) that seeks out and attacks cancer cells, followed by a donor stem cell transplant for people with high-risk leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) that has returned or not responded to treatment. The goal is to find the …

New leukemia combo aims for higher remission rates
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study compares two treatments for acute monocytic leukemia, a blood cancer. About 204 people aged 14 to 60 will get either a new drug combo (venetoclax plus CACAG) or standard chemotherapy (3+7). The goal is to see which approach leads to more complete remissions after one c…

New trial aims to make stem cell transplants safer for blood cancer patients
Disease control Recruiting nowThis phase II trial is testing two different methods to reduce graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in patients with acute leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) who are receiving a donor stem cell transplant. One method removes certain immune cells from the donor cells before tr…
