New bone shell technique could strengthen zygomatic implants

NCT ID NCT07394179

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two methods to improve bone and gum health around zygomatic implants in patients with severe upper jaw bone loss. One group gets a bone lamina shell with bone granules, while the other uses a buccal fat pad. The goal is to see which approach gives better bone gain and gum contour. Twenty-four adults will take part in this randomized trial.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bone lamina shell and xenogenic particulate bone graft

What this could lead to

If successful, this could improve bone and gum stability around zygomatic implants, reducing complications and enhancing long-term implant success.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Surgical risks like infection or graft failure are possible.
