Could a bone drug ease pain in kids with rare inflammatory disease?
NCT ID NCT07668583
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether the drug zoledronate can reduce pain in children aged 4 to 17 with chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO), a rare auto-inflammatory bone disease. The 30 participants have not responded to standard anti-inflammatory drugs. They will receive either zoledronate or a placebo by IV, and their pain levels will be tracked over 12 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
zoledronate (a bisphosphonate drug given by IV)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for children with hard-to-treat CRMO bone pain.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 30 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug also has known risks like flu-like symptoms and kidney issues.
