New combo pill may help diabetes patients control blood sugar

NCT ID NCT06495281

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed observational study looked at over 2,000 adults with type 2 diabetes who were already taking metformin plus another diabetes drug. Researchers wanted to see if adding a new combination pill called Zemidapa (which contains two diabetes medicines) could improve blood sugar control. The main goal was to measure changes in HbA1c (a long-term blood sugar marker) after 12 weeks. The study also tracked how many patients reached the recommended HbA1c target of below 7%.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Zemidapa (a combination of gemigliptin and dapagliflozin) and metformin

What this could lead to

If successful, this could confirm that adding Zemidapa to existing metformin therapy helps more patients reach their blood sugar targets.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may be less reliable. It only looks at short-term (12-week) effects, and long-term benefits or risks remain unknown.
