Flu drug zanamivir tested against Dengue's deadliest complication

NCT ID NCT04597437

First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot trial tests whether intravenous zanamivir, a drug already used for flu, can reduce vascular permeability — the dangerous blood vessel leakage that is the main cause of death in dengue fever. About 74 people with dengue and warning signs will receive either zanamivir or a placebo for five days. The study will check for side effects and measure biomarkers of blood vessel damage.
