First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a website program called Young United Parents! (YUP!) for teen mothers aged 15-20. Over two months, participants use online content, meet with mentors, and set goals. The goal is to see if the program helps them use effective birth control and have less unprotected sex. 1,400 young mothers are taking part across the U.S.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Guided Young United Parents! Website Intervention (online content, near-peer mentors, goal tool, community)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could give young mothers a practical, online tool to reduce unplanned pregnancies and improve contraceptive use.

What could go wrong

This is a behavioral intervention relying on self-reports, so results may be biased. The study is not a drug trial and won't produce a medical cure.
