New study tests if four short chats can curb teen pregnancy and abuse
NCT ID NCT06574217
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a program called Stepping Stones, where an adult guide talks with at-risk youth aged 12-22 over four sessions about values, relationships, and planning. The goal is to see if it increases STI testing, reduces unprotected sex, and lowers emotional abuse compared to watching a film about social media. Six hundred fifty participants will be followed for nine months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stepping Stones (StSt) behavioral intervention
What this could lead to
If effective, this program could provide a simple, scalable way to help at-risk youth reduce unprotected sex, STI testing, and emotional abuse in relationships.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage behavioral study with 650 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The control group receives a film with no sexual health content, which may not be a fair comparison.
