Summary
This study aimed to find out how often patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) have high carbon dioxide levels (hypercapnia) along with breathing failure, and what factors affect their recovery. Researchers tracked 862 adults admitted to ICUs who had fast breathing or other signs of breathing distress and high CO2 levels. The goal was to gather data to better understand and manage this common condition.
