NCT ID NCT07245433
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether daily use of xylitol wipes can reduce cavity-causing bacteria in infants and toddlers. Twenty healthy children aged 9 to 18 months had their teeth and gums wiped three times a day for four weeks. Researchers measured bacteria and acid levels in saliva to see if the wipes helped.

Active substance
xylitol dental wipes
What this could lead to
If effective, xylitol wipes could offer a simple, daily way to help prevent early childhood cavities in babies and toddlers.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 20 children and no comparison group. Results may not apply to all children, and long-term cavity prevention is not proven.
