Chewing gum could stop premature births, major trial launches

NCT ID NCT07424846

Summary

This study is testing whether a special chewing gum containing xylitol can prevent early (preterm) birth and low birth weight in babies. It will involve 6,000 pregnant women in Malawi, who will chew either a higher or lower dose of xylitol gum or a placebo gum daily. The goal is to see if improving mothers' gum health with xylitol leads to healthier pregnancies and better development for their babies.
