New stitch method aims to cut infection risk after appendix removal

NCT ID NCT07274878

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will compare two methods of closing the skin after open appendix surgery: standard interrupted stitches versus a continuous stitch under the skin plus a small drain. The goal is to see which method leads to fewer wound infections and better healing. About 100 people aged 14 and older will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
subcuticular suture plus subcutaneous drain
What this could lead to
If this works, it could point toward a better way to close wounds after open appendectomy, reducing infections and improving scar appearance.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drain could cause its own complications.
