Heavy blankets show promise for calming dementia Patients' distress

NCT ID NCT03643991

Summary

This small pilot study from Mayo Clinic tested whether weighted blankets could help reduce agitation and distressing symptoms in people with dementia. Researchers gave specially weighted blankets to 30 hospitalized patients with dementia and measured changes in their agitation, anxiety, and overall distress over several days. The goal was to explore a simple, non-medication approach to improve comfort for people experiencing dementia-related behavioral symptoms.
