New online therapy shows promise for opioid addiction and chronic pain

Summary

This study tested a web-based program that combines cognitive behavioral therapy with pain self-management for 160 adults with opioid use disorder and chronic pain who were already taking methadone or buprenorphine. The program aimed to improve adherence to addiction treatment and reduce pain interference through daily text surveys and skill-building exercises. Results were compared to standard care alone over a 3-month treatment period with a 6-month follow-up.
