Can a Brain-Zapping headset improve your golf swing?
NCT ID NCT07839910
First seen Sep 24, 2026 · Last updated Sep 25, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers test whether a single 20-minute session of wearable motor-cortex brain stimulation improves full-swing golf shots compared with sham stimulation. The trial enrolls 67 golfers aged 16 and older with at least two years of training, grouped as professional, high-amateur, or middle-amateur. Each participant hits 40 shots before and 40 after real or sham stimulation, with a launch monitor measuring distance, ball speed, and accuracy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- wearable transcranial direct current stimulation (Halo Sport 2)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, golfers could use a wearable headset before practice or play to sharpen shot distance and accuracy. The approach might also inform brain-stimulation research in other precision sports.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-session study of 67 golfers, so any boost may be small, short-lived, or limited to the lab. Brain stimulation carries rare risks such as skin irritation or headache, and sham-controlled trials often find no real effect.
