Brush vs. forceps: which biopsy method spots esophagus problems better?

NCT ID NCT04312633

First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study will collect data from 90,000 adults to compare two methods of taking tissue samples from the esophagus: standard forceps biopsies and a brush-based test called WATS3D. The goal is to see if the brush method finds more cases of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal dysplasia than forceps alone. Participants include people with heartburn, known Barrett's esophagus, or those who have had prior treatment.
