Blood clots after severe limb injuries may predict chronic pain

NCT ID NCT07475910

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study follows 150 adults with severe arm or leg injuries to see if developing a blood clot raises the risk of long-term pain. Participants are enrolled within 72 hours of hospital admission and monitored for six months. The goal is to understand how blood clots and pain are connected, which could improve care and recovery planning.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If it succeeds, this could help doctors better predict and prevent long-term pain after severe limb injuries.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may find no clear link between blood clots and pain, or results may not apply to all patients.
