First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether using virtual reality (VR) headsets for balance exercises could help people with mild-to-moderate COPD. Fifty participants did VR training three times a week for eight weeks. Researchers measured balance, walking ability, and lung function to see if VR training is a good alternative to traditional physical therapy.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Virtual reality training
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, engaging way to improve balance and reduce falls in people with COPD, possibly as a substitute for traditional physical therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 50 participants. Results may not apply to everyone with COPD, and VR training may not be better than standard therapy. No long-term follow-up data is available.
