VR goggles track Smokers' cravings in new study

NCT ID NCT06582888

First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether virtual reality (VR) can measure how smokers pay attention to cigarette-related cues, and if the medication varenicline changes that attention. Two hundred daily smokers, aged 22 and older, will have their eye movements tracked in VR before and after taking varenicline or a placebo. The goal is to see if this VR test can serve as a biomarker for nicotine addiction and help predict smoking behavior.
