Scientists seek perfect drug dose for life support patients fighting deadly fungal infections
NCT ID NCT04868188
Summary
This study aimed to find the correct dose of the antifungal drug voriconazole for critically ill COVID-19 or flu patients on a life support machine called ECMO. Researchers measured drug levels in the blood of 32 adult patients being treated for a serious fungal lung infection called aspergillosis. The goal was to gather information to help doctors give doses that are effective but not toxic for these very sick patients.
