Vitamin d may help red blood cell recovery after heart surgery

Summary

This study looked at 135 adults who had heart bypass surgery to see if vitamin D levels before surgery affect how quickly their hemoglobin (a part of red blood cells) recovers afterward. Researchers also measured a protein called hepcidin, which controls iron in the body. The goal was to better understand why many heart surgery patients have low red blood cell counts and how vitamin D might help.
