Vitamin c and immunotherapy combo trial for lung cancer ends early after just one patient
NCT ID NCT06083454
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This very early trial aimed to see if adding high-dose vitamin C to the immunotherapy drug durvalumab could boost the immune response against non-small cell lung cancer before surgery. It planned to enroll people with early-stage lung cancer, but was terminated after only one participant. Because it stopped so early, we cannot draw any meaningful conclusions about safety or effectiveness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
high-dose vitamin C (pharmacological ascorbate) and durvalumab (an immunotherapy drug)
What this could lead to
If it had worked, this could have pointed toward a way to boost the immune system's attack on lung cancer before surgery.
What could go wrong
The trial was very early (Phase 1) and was terminated after enrolling just 1 person, so we have almost no data. It is unclear if the combination is safe or effective.
